Описание: Join me on Day 22 of my solo journey along the Via Francigena as I hike from Vetralla to Sutri, covering 24km through some of Italy's most enchanting landscapes, all captured in stunning 4K.

Today’s trek takes us through dense forests and hazelnut groves, providing a serene backdrop to our adventure. As we approach Sutri, the historical significance of this ancient town unfolds with its impressive Roman amphitheater and well-preserved Etruscan tombs.

Experience the blend of natural beauty and rich history, making this part of Italy a treasure for hikers and history enthusiasts alike.

We really enjoyed the hike today. Most of it was in forests, which we enjoy. Amanda pushed through the pain in her knees, and we arrived in Sutri in the late afternoon. Our accommodation in Sutri was spectacular. Goose House Luxury Holiday Home will exceed your expectations.

The climb into Sutri was steep, but the town was beautiful. We spent the late afternoon in the square having a beer with a German pilgrim whom we had met a few times on the route, and we had a great pizza and red wine for supper.

Sutri is an ancient town located in the province of Viterbo, Italy. Its history dates back to the Etruscan civilization, making it a place of great archaeological significance. In ancient times, it was known as "Sutrium" and was an important Etruscan city.

During the Roman era, Sutri became a Roman colony and participated in several military campaigns. One notable event in its history was the Sack of Sutri in 386 AD, when the Visigoths, led by King Alaric, attacked and looted it.

Over the centuries, Sutri changed hands multiple times, experiencing rule by different Italian states and families. It was part of the Papal States and later the Kingdom of Italy in the 19th century.

Throughout its history, Sutri has preserved its ancient structures, including an impressive Roman amphitheater carved into tuff rock, Etruscan tombs, and other archaeological remains.

Today, Sutri is known for its historical charm, attracting visitors interested in exploring its rich past and experiencing its picturesque setting.
