Protests have intensified in Katra against the proposed Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ropeway project from Tarakote to Bhawan. Local porters, palki bearers, pony owners, shopkeepers, and transporters say the project threatens the livelihoods of 15,000–20,000 families. While the administration says the ropeway aims to ease travel for the elderly and दिव्यांग pilgrims, discussions on a rehabilitation package are underway. Pilgrimage continues, but protesters warn of a possible “Katra Bandh” if demands are not addressed.
