Aid Trucks Reach Gaza As UN Urges Israel To Open More Crossings For Humanitarian Relief

Nearly a month after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect, Palestinians in Gaza continue to face dire conditions, struggling to access basic necessities amid widespread displacement. With most residents living in tents or amid the ruins of their homes, concerns are growing over shelter and clothing as winter sets in.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General appealed for Israel to open additional crossings beyond the existing two, to enable direct delivery of aid to both northern and southern Gaza.
According to Gaza health officials, more than 69,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict so far, as both sides completed another exchange of bodies under the terms of the fragile truce. The increase in the death toll follows the recovery and identification of additional bodies from the rubble since the ceasefire began on October 10.
The figures also include those killed in Israeli strikes, which the Israeli military claims were aimed at remaining Hamas militants.
Body exchanges form a key component of the ceasefire’s initial phase, under which Hamas is required to return the remains of all hostages. The truce seeks to de-escalate what has become the most devastating and deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas to date — one that began with the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault on southern Israel that left around 1,200 people dead and 251 taken hostage.
