09/10/2024 – H.E. Mr. Bob Rae, President of the 2025 Session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), addressed the side-event "Shaping an Environmentally Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Future" on 9 October 2024.
Ambassador Rae stressed the important role of ECOSOC in promoting digital technologies through the annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for the SDGs. He highlighted the importance of universal access to digital technologies, recognizing connectivity as essential for building inclusive and resilient societies.
The President of ECOSOC also underscored that the UNCTAD Digital Economy Report 2024 highlights the need to close the digital divide, a long-standing priority for ECOSOC. It urges greater investment in digital infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved areas, ensuring digital technologies are accessible to all.
