Design without Borders has worked with the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) to make a lifesaving medical device available for Ugandan hospitals. Engineers and technicians at UIRI developed a low-cost infusion set for intravenous therapy for children under the age of five that is suitable for use in Ugandan hospitals and can be offered at a significantly lower price than was the case for those imported from abroad. They needed assistance with developing the casing and preparing a product that could be tested clinically. Design without Borders helped the technical team at UIRI come up with a prototype that will be tested in hospitals in Kampala during 2016.
