Melbourne Archbishop Peter Comensoli says the shock passing of Cardinal George Pell was “very sad and personal news”.
“He was instrumental in a number of reforms in the financial and the stewardship of the diocese, such that I can stand here now and know there is a secure way in which we can continue to support the works of the Church, the ministries, especially to the poor," Archbishop Comensoli said during a media conference on Wednesday.
“He, over many years, has been a forthright defender of the faith, a great Gospel man.”
