I’m doing something a little different this time, taking a jazz standard and putting it in a Latin Jazz context. Softly As In A Morning Sunrise works great as an uptempo swing tune, but it just rocks with a Son Montuno groove. So I’ve put a tumbao under these changes and played through a few choruses, each taking a different approach. I also make connections between the bass approaches and the percussion patterns, which is a key element for Latin Jazz,As usual, I’m playing the line on Double Bass here, but this is a great one to play on Bass Guitar too!
