Описание: Six common polymers which find widespread use in household objects are shown: polypropylene (PP), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polystyrene (PS), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). A procedure to separate them on the basis of their density is demonstrated. Six aqueous solutions (of salts or alcohols) of decreasing density are layered in a test tube and small samples of plastic are dropped in. They settle at different heights, according to their density.
