The time we had at Recherche Bay was so good, but it was time to move on. The wind and swell situation had improved and as per the forecast, Thursday and Friday were the best days to head south and around the bottom of Tasmania to Port Davey. I decided to give it one more day, to leave on Friday even though all but Bellamy and one other boat left on the Thursday.
The swell was dropping to less than 2 metres and a light breeze was with us for the whole trip, even so, we motor-sailed for most of the 9-hour journey, and the sun shone brightly the whole day. The conditions were magical and the colours of the sky, sea and land were so vibrant. It ended up being an unofficial race between us and the other boat that decided to leave at the same time. Although we kept close to the coast- just to see more of the coastline and do a fly-by into Louisa Bay, the other yacht followed the rhumb-line between De Witt, and Maatsuyker Islands and arrived just after us.
I wanted to anchor Spain Bay for the night, mainly because the conditions were looking really good to take the tender over to the Breaksea Islands the next morning- which we did. We had an unbelievable experience going in and out of the many crevices and caves in perfect conditions. some of them where only just wide enough to fit the tender though. It was a bucket-list tick for me, and an unforgettable experience for Dani and Heather.
