During Level one (The Ruins) you eventually come across 5 shrines, they aren't hidden or tricky to find they are right in front of you.

Each one as a little fire pit and a symbol on the floor in front of it, click x (or whichever prompted button) and it will tell a story at each shrine. Don't move or skip the story until the symbol re-appears on the floor, then move on to the next, remembering there are five in total towards the end of the first level. Which is after all of the fighting tutorials.
