The BJP and Shiv Sena pulled off a historic win in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, taking control of India’s wealthiest civic body. The BJP-led Mahayuti secured a majority in 25 of 29 municipal corporations, emerging as the single-largest party in 19 others. In the BMC, BJP won 89 seats, Shiv Sena 29, Shiv Sena (UBT) 65, Congress 24, AIMIM 8, MNS 6, NCP 3, SP 2, and NCP (SP) 1. The outcome marks a major setback for the NCP factions, unable to curb BJP’s surge in traditional strongholds.
