Karlovac was founded in 1579. It was built in the shape of a 6-pointed star, Zvijezda, and is surrounded by moats. Karlovac is known as the city on four rivers: the Korana, the Kupa, the Mrežnica and the Dobra.
The city is located in central Croatia, 50 miles (54 kilometers) south of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. About 50,000 people call it their home.
