Presented by Rod Stephens
In today's competitive job market, companies use all sorts of techniques to try to separate mediocre developers from great ones. One of those techniques is the interview puzzle. In this talk, author Rod Stephens will demystify interview puzzles for both job candidates and interviewer. He’ll start by reviewing the fascinating history of interview puzzles. Next he’ll explain what interview puzzles are and how they can be used to do more than simply annoy job candidates. Interview puzzles often aren’t a good test of a candidate’s programming ability, but they can be effective when used in the right way. We’ll then spend bulk of the talk working through different kinds of interview puzzles so you’ll be better prepared should you meet one in the wild.
Rod Stephens started out as a mathematician, but while studying at MIT, he discovered how much fun programming is and he’s been programming professionally ever since. He’s a longtime developer, instructor, and author who’s written more than 250 magazine articles and 37 books that have been translated into languages around the world.
During his career, Rod has worked on an eclectic assortment of applications in such fields as telephone switching, billing, repair dispatching, tax processing, wastewater treatment, concert ticket sales, cartography, optometry, and training for professional football teams. (That’s U.S. football, not one of the kinds with the round ball. Or the kind with three downs. Or the kind with an oval field. Or the indoor kind. Let’s just say NFL and leave it at that.) Rod’s popular C# Helper and VB Helper websites (www.csharphelper.com and www.vb-helper.com, respectively) contain thousands of tips, tricks, and example programs for C# and Visual Basic programmers.
