“God Makes A Way to Cancun . A True Story"
This song is based on a real story about my dad a roofer, a preacher, and a man of unshakable faith.
In 2005, after a devastating hurricane tore through Cancun, Mexico, he felt called to go. He wasn’t sponsored. He wasn’t funded. He loaded his small truck to the brim with roofing tools and set out with two missions: find work and preach hope to hurting people.
Along the way, a government officer stopped him and warned him the road to Cancun had been completely washed out. Most would’ve turned around. He didn’t.
He searched for another way and found a group of men who pointed him toward a back road. He drove until the pavement ended and the storm damage swallowed the path. The jungle closed in. The road was gone. He was stuck alone, far from home, and running out of light.
That’s when he prayed.
“Lord, You told me to go. Make a way where there is no way.”
As darkness settled in, danger circled. Some men approached with bad intentions, trying to rob him. He stood his ground and drove them off. Still stranded. Still uncertain. Still believing.
Then he heard it.
A roar in the distance. A rumble shaking the ground. Blinding lights breaking through the trees.
Out of nowhere, a massive bulldozer bigger than anything he had ever seen tore through the jungle and plowed a brand-new road right past his stranded truck. Dirt piled up around him. The impossible was becoming possible right before his eyes.
Moments later, a small truck came honking down this new path.
“Where does this road go?” my dad asked.
“It’s the new road to Cancun,” the man shouted back.
But there was still one problem. The dirt berm from the bulldozer was too high for his little truck to cross.
He looked up again.
“Lord… I see the road. But I can’t reach it.”
And then came the final piece.
A smaller bulldozer followed behind, clearing the dirt, lowering the pile beside his truck just enough for him to drive over and onto the newly carved road.
Step by step.
Roar by roar.
Prayer by prayer.
He made it to Cancun.
He roofed homes.
He helped families.
He preached hope.
He lived the message he believed.
This song was written to tell that story a story about obedience, courage, and a God who still makes roads in the wilderness.
Sometimes the way isn’t visible.
Sometimes you’re stuck.
Sometimes it gets dark before the breakthrough.
But when you’re called… and you trust…
A way will be made.
“Behold, I will do a new thing… I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” — Isaiah 43:19
This is a true story.
