Azerbaijan rugs are woven in Azerbaijan, a large region in the northwest of Iran, known to have the best pastures and mountains for the sheep. The quality of the wool in this region is very high and durable.

During the spring and fall season, the men shear and prepare the wool while the women collect the materials and dye the wool. Once winter rolls, the family starts setting up the workshop and weaving the rug. They work together as if rug weaving is a family affair.

What's interesting is there are no blueprints for creating these rugs. The old generation of weavers passed down their designs to the new generation and the new generation of weavers added new personalities to the rug bringing up a new twist to the newer rugs.

When the rugs are ready, the weavers take the rugs to the bazaars in the city of Tabriz to sell the finished rugs.
