Описание: Welcome to *Ghatna Chakra – Daily Current Affairs 2026*. In this session, we cover the most important national and international current affairs for 19 October 2026, specially designed for students preparing for UPSC, UPPCS, BPSC, RO/ARO, SSC and other competitive examinations. From global biodiversity conservation and forest reports to environmental policies, agricultural reforms, important awards and cultural events, this video provides exam-oriented facts to strengthen your General Studies preparation.

Environmental conservation takes centre stage with the release of the first global assessment on biodiversity action, titled State of Biodiversity Action. The report highlights international progress under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), including national biodiversity targets, National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, and reporting by member countries. The Yerevan Biodiversity Declaration 2026, adopted in Armenia on 16 October, further emphasises halting biodiversity loss, restoring natural ecosystems by 2030, increasing conservation finance and strengthening international cooperation.

Another major environmental development is the State of the World's Forests Report 2026, released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). According to the supplied report data, forests covered approximately 4.14 billion hectares, or 32% of the world's land area, in 2025. The report also highlights global deforestation and land degradation. India's reported achievement in active forest restoration is particularly important for environment-related questions. These developments connect directly with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and its target of restoring at least 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030.

The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-17) is being held in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19 to 30 October 2026, under the theme “Taking Action for Nature”. The conference aims to review progress towards global biodiversity targets and accelerate action to protect ecosystems. Meanwhile, India's proposed phased implementation of Bharat Stage VII emission standards is an important development in automobile pollution control, cleaner mobility and environmental regulation.

Agriculture and the rural economy feature prominently through the formation of a high-level committee chaired by former NITI Aayog member Professor Ramesh Chand. The committee will examine sugarcane pricing, the minimum selling price of sugar and transparency in weighing and recovery testing. India will also host the 61st meeting of the International Committee of Legal Metrology in New Delhi from 26 to 28 October, focusing on measurement standards, digital regulation and international cooperation.

In culture and society, Telangana's Bathukamma festival concluded with Saddula Bathukamma, celebrating nature, womanhood and folk traditions. Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana was appointed UNICEF India's Celebrity Advocate to promote girls' rights, education, safety and empowerment. The Kuldeep Nayar Journalism Awards for 2024 and 2025 will recognise journalists Hridayesh Joshi and Shyam Meera Singh, respectively. In Tamil Nadu, the Periyar Arivulagam Library and Science Centre was inaugurated in Coimbatore, bringing together educational resources, a digital library and astronomy facilities.

Watch this session to revise important reports, international declarations, environmental targets, government committees, awards and cultural developments for your upcoming examinations.
