In this video, we demonstrate the water break-in method for RC brushed motors, a technique that can enhance the performance and longevity of your motor. Follow these steps to ensure a proper break-in:
Preparation: Fill a container with enough water to submerge the motor. Use distilled water to avoid impurities.
Initial Run: Attach the motor to a battery and run it at a low speed (around 2-3 volts) for about 5 minutes. This helps the brushes to seat properly against the commutator.
Gradual Increase: Gradually increase the speed of the motor for the next 5-10 minutes. This ensures a smooth and even wear on the brushes.
Monitoring: Keep an eye on the water. It will turn murky as the brushes wear in. This is normal and indicates that the break-in process is working.
Cleaning: After the break-in, remove the motor from the water and thoroughly dry it. Use a motor spray cleaner to remove any remaining debris and moisture.
Lubrication: Apply a few drops of motor bearing oil to the bearings to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
By following these steps, you'll achieve a well-seated brush and commutator, resulting in improved motor efficiency and power output. Remember, this method is only for brushed motors and should not be used on brushless motors.
