Conde Valdemar Crianza 2019, Rioja, Spain
Unknown grape(s)/oak type/aging period, 14% Alc by Vol
Color: Dark crimson, and ruby edges .
Aromas: Initially oaky, but changed to currants, berries, with a hint of clove .
Attack: some fine tannin, good acidity, very well balanced.
Mid-Palate: Chunky, textured feel, with ample fruit.
Finish: Medium length, velvety-smooth, fine tannin.
Cost: 8.99€/750 ml, Alcampo supermarket.
Overall: Great young red, with good aging potential. Yet, enjoyable now following some decanting/breathing (a must... pun-less). I must note that this wine began pretty much like the Pesquera recently sampled. However, and unlike Pesquera, it opened and revealed almost lush fruit. Its fruit became even more evident the following day. This wine is definitely a good buy; less than half the price of Pesquera and twice (at least) the quality.
