The kaleidoscope of the spring flowers landscape include fybos, vygies, daisies and nemesias. There are hundreds of indigenous species that burst into bloom between August and September each year.

Thousands of visitors arrive each year to snap pictures of this natural wonder.

The last two weeks of August until mid-September are seen as the optimal period to view the wild flowers.

The flower season is determined mostly by the rainfall. This will impact the number and quality of the flowers as well as the time span of the flower season.

The diversity of the flowers that will be available and the flower hot-spots will vary each year according to the weather conditions.

Sunny days are prime for flower viewing. When the sun is shining the flowers open and turn their faces towards the sun.

The ideal temperature for viewing wildflowers is around 14˚C and the best time of day is between 10:30 – 16:00.

If the day heat up too quickly the flowers wilt earlier in the day.
The petals remain closed on very overcast or rainy days.

A good idea is to do your flower viewing in a southerly direction. The reason for this is that the flowers always face the sun. This way the flowers will be facing you.
