Umuasua Community Makes History: Age Grades Retire, New One Inaugurated, ₦200m Civic Centre Launched

Описание: Umuasua Autonomous Community in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State witnessed a truly historic and emotional celebration on December 26, 2025, as sons and daughters of the community gathered for a four-tier landmark event that blended tradition, development, and honour.

Organised by the Umuasua Progressive Association (UPA) under the leadership of Mazi Ozoememna Igbokwe, the event featured the retirement of two respected age grades, the inauguration of a new age grade, the launch of a ₦200 million Civic and Skill Acquisition Centre, and the honouring of distinguished Umuasua sons whose lives have brought pride to the community.

The atmosphere was deeply emotional as elderly members of the Patriotic and Mara Nwanne age grades bowed out after decades of service, while joy and excitement filled the air as the Oganihu Age Grade was formally inaugurated to carry the torch of leadership and development.

One of the biggest highlights was the unveiling of a ₦200 million Civic and Skill Acquisition Centre, designed to empower youths, promote skills acquisition, reduce unemployment, and secure Umuasua’s socio-economic future.

Chairman of the event, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd), praised the community’s unity and strong age-grade system, describing it as a powerful engine for development. He also encouraged youths to embrace agriculture, pledging support for interested community members.

The event also witnessed the conferment of the prestigious “O CHU IKPOGHO N’ASUA” title on outstanding Umuasua sons for their exceptional service, leadership, and impact on society.

From emotional moments and cultural displays to bold development plans and honouring excellence, this gathering stood as a powerful statement of identity, continuity, unity, and hope for Umuasua’s future.
