In May I went for a three-night hike in Hossa National Park, just as the lakes and trails were (almost) free from snow. The route started from funnily -named Hevonperseenmutka (Horse's Ass Bend) lean-to from where I walked to Lake Kokalmus southern banks and back.
The trails frequently disappeared under flood waters and some huts along the way were sitting in a shallow puddle of water! I slept in my Warbonnet hammock, without too much mosquitoes to bother me.
Hossa National Park is an excellent destination for hiking and cycling. The trails running along pine heaths invite you to hike and cycle, and the crystal-clear lakes to go canoeing and fishing. The park consists of 11,000 hectares of wildlife and unspoiled nature, with Hossa Hiking Area situated in its heart.
