Holbox is known for being Tulum before people knew about it.
After a week there we came to the conclusion that it is for sure it’s own unique piece of planet. This is one of the rare places that you can have clear water with a bay that is a foot deep super far out.
You can kayak a fresh water canal to see alligators and then it feeds into a saltwater ocean that hosts a nesting ground for flamingos on a beach that has literally black swarms of mosquitos.
You can get lost walking the beach and end up in a lagoon that lights up at night with bioluminescence under a starry sky.
The people have a cool hippy mentality and vibe to them that is nice compared to the touristic people you can meet else where in this area.
Heads up, the area is a mix of non developed areas that can be very difficult to get around when a storm comes. We lost power to the whole area and cell reception/internet and the streets were flooded.
Also, the price to visit here can be expensive. We ate at some places on the beach and cocktails were around $15/20 USD.
