Описание: The Supreme Court of India has refused to make menstrual leave compulsory for working women and female students, stating that the issue should be addressed by the government as a policy matter.

Chief Justice Surya Kant and the bench warned that mandating paid menstrual leave by law could unintentionally affect women’s employment opportunities. The court encouraged voluntary initiatives but stressed that any policy must avoid portraying menstruation as a workplace weakness.

The government has been asked to consider the representation and consult states and stakeholders before framing a policy.
