In the darkness of World War II, a small torpedo boat called PT-109 was torn apart after being struck by a Japanese warship. Surrounded by open sea and danger, Lieutenant John F. Kennedy refused to surrender. He led his crew through hours of exhausting swimming toward land, even towing a wounded sailor by gripping the strap of his life jacket between his teeth.

Two Solomon Islander scouts bravely carried the coconut across dangerous waters until it reached Allied forces. Soon after, help arrived. All eleven crew members were rescued.
