This is the original version of Theme One, written and produced by George Martin as the theme tune to BBC Radio 1, it has since been covered by many other artists, most notably by Cozy Powell and Van Der Graaf Generator.
Before the advent of 24 hr. radio broadcasting this tune was used as the opening theme every morning at the start of broadcasting, it was also used as the theme tune to Radio1's "Friday night is music night" programme.
George Martin also produced a second very similar but more electronic sounding version of this, which was also used by the BBC.
This orchestral version was the first version to be released on record, whilst the electronic version was the first version to be used on radio 1
