Opposition Seeks Special Assembly Session on Section 39A; Meets Governor at Lok Bhavan

Описание: A joint delegation of Opposition MLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress, along with leaders of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), met the Governor at Lok Bhavan on Thursday seeking an urgent special session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to scrap Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act.

The delegation urged the Governor to intervene and ensure that the Assembly is convened at the earliest to discuss and repeal the contentious provision. Opposition leaders have alleged that Section 39A has triggered widespread concern across the state and requires immediate legislative action.
Leader of the Opposition said the issue is highly sensitive and warned that it could potentially affect law and order if not addressed promptly. He also highlighted that RGP MLA Viresh Borkar, who is on an indefinite fast demanding the scrapping of Section 39A, is facing deteriorating health.
The delegation stressed that immediate intervention is necessary, both to resolve the policy issue and to safeguard the health of the fasting MLA.
