Описание: 徳島城は、徳島県徳島市にある城。城跡は国指定の史跡、名勝（表御殿庭園）となっています。徳島城は、吉野川河口付近の中洲に位置する標高61メートルの城山に築かれた山城と城山の周囲の平城からなる、連郭式の平山城です。
戦国時代、阿波の地は群雄が割拠し、しばしば城主が入れ替わりました。元来、阿波は天下人となった三好長慶の生誕地で、三好氏の本拠地でした。しかし、三好長慶の死後は三好氏は衰退し、天正10年（1582年）に長宗我部元親が阿波に侵攻し平定されます。天正13年（1585年）、豊臣秀吉股肱の臣である蜂須賀正勝は、四国征伐の恩賞に阿波国を与えられますが、高齢を理由に嗣子の家政に家督を譲り、蜂須賀家政が阿波一国18万6000石を賜ります。家政は、現在地に大規模な平山城を築造開始し、1年半後の天正14年（1586年）に完成。この徳島城完成を祝って踊られたのが阿波踊りの発祥とする逸話が残っています。
蜂須賀家政は、築城に従事した庶民や城下の住民に酒をふるまうと人々は狂喜乱舞したと云います。家政は、家臣や武士の参加を禁じたため、庶民は遠慮なく旧暦の7月15～16日の2日間踊り狂うことが出来ました。この築城時、豊臣秀吉は小早川隆景や長宗我部元親らに築城の手伝い普請を命じており、これがのちに江戸幕府の天下普請導入の参考となったと云われています。その後、大坂の陣の戦功等により淡路7万1千石が加増され、江戸時代を通して徳島藩蜂須賀氏25万7千石の居城となり、明治の廃城令まで約300年間に渡り存続しました。
徳島城の石垣は非常に特徴的で、その多くは側にある眉山の三波川変成岩（結晶片石）が使われています。青みがかった色が特徴の岩で、岩石の種類としては、青石・紅簾片石・石英片岩。
江戸時代、蜂須賀氏は、それまで阿波になかった産業を興し、新しく製塩・製藍工業を興し、この城を中心にして徳島城下は西国有数の大都市として発展させました。これらによって、徳島藩の実高は40万石を越えていたといわれます。
昭和20年（1945年）、米軍による徳島大空襲により、残念ながら城内のほとんどの建物が焼失してしまいます。現在、徳島城跡は徳島中央公園として整備され、春は桜、夏は菖蒲、秋はバラが咲き乱れ、1年中楽しめる徳島市民の憩いの場となっています。平成18年（2006年）、徳島城跡は日本100名城（76番）に選定されました。

Tokushima Castle is located in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. The ruins of the castle are designated as a national historic site and a place of scenic beauty (Omote-goten garden). The castle was built on a 61-meter-high mountain located on a sandbar near the mouth of the Yoshino River and consisted of a mountain castle and a flat castle around the castle.
During the Warring States period, the Awa province was divided by rival warlords, and the lord of the castle often changed hands. Originally, Awa province was the birthplace of Nagayoshi Miyoshi, who became the ruler of Japan, and was the home of the Miyoshi clan. However, after the death of Nagayoshi Miyoshi, the Miyoshi clan declined, and in 1582, Motochika Chosokabe invaded Awa and pacified it. In 1585, Masakatsu Hachisuka, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, was given the Awa province as a reward for his conquest of Shikoku, but due to his advanced age, he passed the governorship to his successor Iemasa, who was given 186,000 koku in the Awa province. Iemasa began construction of a large-scale flat mountain castle on the present site, which was completed a year and a half later, in 1586 (Tensho 14). According to an anecdote, the Awa Odori dance was originated to celebrate the completion of Tokushima Castle. Hachisuka Iemasa is said to have served sake to the common people who worked on the construction of the castle and to the castle's residents, who danced wildly and joyously. Iemasa forbade the participation of warriors, so the common people danced wildly for two days from July 15 to 16 without hesitation. During the construction of the castle, Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered Kobayakawa Takakage, Chosokabe Motochika, and others to assist in the construction of the castle, and it is said that this later served as a reference for the introduction of Tenka Fushin by the Edo Shogunate. After that, Awaji was increased to 71,000 koku due to the military achievements of the siege of Osaka, and throughout the Edo period, it continued to exist for about 300 years until the Meiji castle abandonment ordinance as the residence of the Hachisuka clan of Tokushima Domain with 257,000 koku.
During the Edo period, the Hachisuka clan established industries that had not existed in Awa province before, such as salt and indigo manufacturing, and developed Tokushima Castle into one of the largest cities in the western part of Japan. The Tokushima Castle was one of the largest cities in the western part of Japan, and the Tokushima Clan's actual assets exceeded 400,000 koku.
Unfortunately, most of the buildings in the castle were destroyed by fire during an air raid on Tokushima by the U.S. military in 1945. Today, the ruins of Tokushima Castle are maintained as Tokushima Central Park, which is a year-round recreational area for Tokushima citizens, with cherry blossoms in spring, irises in summer, and roses in autumn. In 2006, Tokushima Castle Ruins was selected as one of The top 100 castles in Japan (No. 76).
