In my opinion, the song "Hurt" fits Shane perfectly. At first, he thought he lost his best friend, his brother Rick because of a shootout. Not being able to live with it, Shane, with no thought for himself, decided to protect Rick's family, Lori and Carl. Shane was attached to them, loving them as his own, which eventually would lead to his death.
