November 30, 2021, DSA's International Committee hosted a digital conference by Professor Emeritus Göran Therborn.
"Social Democracy was a rebellious child of industrial capitalism, growing up with the development of the latter, and falling into crisis with the de-industrialization of advanced capitalism. But this was no terminal crisis, not even a permanent one. What followed was a motley set of attempts at navigating a changed capitalist world and its geopolitics, moving between market adaptations and re-affirmations of equality and solidarity, with variable results." - Göran Therborn
Göran Therborn is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Cambridge. He is among the most highly cited contemporary Marxian sociologists, publishing on questions of global class politics through the lens of family-sex-gender relations, social theory, urban development, and inequality.
The event will be moderated by Chris Maisano, a member of the Europe IC subcommittee from the NYC-DSA chapter and a DSA member and editor at Phenomenal World.
