Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy: The Foundation and Core Components 2

Описание: This presentation discusses foundations of Culturally Responsive Teaching and Culturally Relevant Teaching/Pedagogy, and how at the Centre for Urban Schooling at OISE in 2008, we began to blend the two to create what has come to be known as CRRP. In this video, I discuss how we have taken up the work to expand upon the original theories from the United States as we apply them within the Canadian context. Of all of the components, I focus in on the critical consciousness component from Ladson-Billings' original work on Culturally Relevant Teaching (1994) and share how some of my recent work in Ontario has been focused on exploring the critical consciousness raising of the educator as a part of the work to support students. This work is taken up through an educator inquiry that I've come o call Critically Conscious Practitioner Inquiry (2016). I provide a few ideas for thinking about entry into CRRP as a beginner, and emphasize it is an anti-oppressive not multicultural approach.
