As mentioned earlier (Karazhma Para Ezhunnellathu) the Karazhma Areeppara marks the culmination of the festivals in Central Travancore. Edavam 1st is the date on which the festival is held. On that day there will be different rituals during the day time. In the evening Karazhma Devi takes 'Para' from Padinjare Karayogam, Kizhakke Karayogam and Devaswam Office. At 9.30 pm representatives of Kizhakke karayogam brings Pattudayada and Poomala (silk garments and garlands) to receive Devi to the Anpolikkalam and the priests adorn Devi with all these. At 10 pm Devi starts for the Anpoli of Kizhakkekkara. Here Devi is accompanied by umbrellas, swords, shields, theevetti, kuthuvilakku, thondivilakku, chukkuvilakku, panthakkutti, thakil, nadaswaram, chenda both uruttu and veek, elathalam, komb, kuzhal etc.
The melam starts in Lekshmi thalam and it goes through a variety of thalas such as chamba, adantha, kuttalachi, vishamakundali, pancharimelam etc. After a variety of rhymic steps and thalas Devi is brought to the place of Anpoli
There will be an Anpolikkottil having 16 ¼ kol length 'utharakkoottu'. 16 nilavilakku and 15 attavilakku are used in anpoli. 16 nilavilakku are arranged inside the Anpolikkottil. One nilavilakku is for Ganapathy. Infront of each, plantain leaf, rice, paddy, avil, malar and bananas in 'para' s will be arranged.
Infront of the Anpolikkottil, Anpolikkalam will be beautifully designed and arranged with flowers. Inside the triangular anpolikkalam 15 attavilkku will be placed according to conventions. The attavilakku are assumed as follows. One for Ganapathy, one for Guru, 5 for Panchabhoothas, and 8 for Ashtadikpalakas.
When the melam passes over to 'panchari', Devi steps into the Anpolikkalam and rotates around each attavilakku. As the melam concludes, Devi must have reached the rear side of Panthal (Anpolikkottil). Then it is the time for paying homage by thousands of devotees. The priests are supplied with betel leaves, arecanuts and tobacco. After that, fireworks illuminate the night into day. By 2 O' clock Devi ceremoniously starts her journey to the Padinjarekkara. The members of Kishakkekkara accompany Devi upto Padinjarekkara. On the western side of the temple, the members of Padinjare Karayogam receives Devi with Pattudayada and Poomala. After that the Anpoli of Padinjarekkara followed by fireworks gets completed. Then Devi proceeds to her brother Ulachikkattu Sreekrishna. Here the brother gives his sister an 'Areeppara'. Baying goodbye to brother, Devi returns to her abode in the early hours of the dawn. At this time Devi is also accompanied by 'Alppindi Thullal'. After reaching Karazhma Devi Temple, sitting upon the elevated platform called 'Pallisramp', wearing all her sparkling jewellery, Devi receives 'Valiya Kanikka'. After that, Devi along with the worshippers conducts 'Pradakshina' to the temple seven times and gets into the shrine. Throughout this time the air will be reverborating with "Amme Saranam, Devi Saram, Sree Karazhmayil Amme Saranam" (It is believed that in olden days people were also chanted "Haro Hara"). With this concludes the Anpoli Areeppara Festival.
Thus the festivals in Central Travancore which commence with Oachirakkali conclude with Karazhma Areeppara.
