Our group of 8 riders rose to a third day of delightful sunny skies, with a light tailwind. We rode along mostly very low-traffic roads through farmland and scattered bushlandin the heart of the goldfields land. Lunch at tiny Talbot was very peaceful, then we pressed on past rural ruins and across volcanic plains to Clunes, the site of the first reported gold discovery in Victoria.
The Tiny Towns Trail is a route that has been done previously by our club when an arts festival was conducted in the very small old gold-mining towns of central Victoria. The countryside is beautiful with box-ironbark forests full of birds and wildflowers at this time of year, the roads are very quiet, and the towns are peaceful & delightful with much historic interest.
