Heavy hybrids can run too! There are just a few things you want to give extra attention to.
You will need to pay attention to the way you program your running and lifting, as your legs are handling more load than others. Although relative to your size and strength, it is something to keep in mind.
Your running form matters. Spend time improving your form, record the way you run from the side to review errors, see a coach, and figure out what method of running feels best for you.
Your running shoes will need to be rotated and updated more frequently.
The running surface you use can influence your fatigue levels; sometimes softer surface like grass can be more forgiving on the lower body.
Be smarter with frequency and volume. Fewer runs and slightly lower weekly mileage may be beneficial. Comparing your plan to a 65kg runner’s isn’t a good idea.
Cross-training is useful. Things like the bike or swimming can be useful to get some load off the legs.
I’ve seen 100kg lifters run 10Ks without pain — and I’ve seen 70kg runners blow up their knees.
It’s not about size. It’s how well you train, recover, and move.
If you’re 85kg+ and running weekly, follow these rules, and it should be sweet.
