Hello, and thank you so much for coming to my channel. This video highlights the main coping mechanisms that adoptees develop from childhood, through adolescence into emerging adulthood and adulthood. If you are an adoptive parent, or considering adopting or if you work in adoption circles, this channel is for you if you wish to understand more about therapeutic parenting or advance your adoptive parenting skills. I am an adoptee, psychotherapist, adoption researcher and wellbeing advocate.

I carried out research in 2019 into wellbeing in adults adopted as babies/infants and I discuss the findings on here, along with the model of adoptive parenting that the research led to.

Having worked in the therapeutic space for several years, I am also able to offer stories from real life adoptees I've worked therapeutically and my own insights as a baby adopted at just 9 days old in 1970. Much has changed since then, but there is still much more to do around understanding how to help adoptees adjust psychologically in order to benefit adoptees of the future.
