This video clip demonstrates the starting process and operation of the very first Otto & Langen - Serial Number 1. This exact engine was shown at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1867 where Otto's fame and success started by winning 1st prize. Fuel is by synthetic town gas, a mixture of H2, Methane and CO. It is nothing short of amazing that it still exists and is believed to be the earliest operating internal combustion in the world. This rare moment was filmed by myself at Deutz and has been posted here with their permission.
