India and the United States have reached an interim trade agreement framework, marking a major breakthrough in India–US trade relations. Following the deal, former US President Donald Trump has rolled back the 25% tariff imposed on Indian goods, reducing it to 18%, which was earlier enforced over India’s import of Russian oil.

According to a joint statement issued by the White House, the interim deal lays the groundwork to operationalise the trade agreement announced earlier this week. As part of the new framework, India has agreed to gradually stop direct or indirect imports of Russian crude oil and instead increase purchases of US energy products.
