Eastwood Classic 6 HB-TL in Pelham Blue - On the bench today
On the bench today is the Eastwood Classic 6 HB-TL in Pelham Blue.
My guitar weighs in at 6 pounds and 12 ounces or 3.88 kilos.
Checking the impedance of the two humbucker pickups the neck measures 7.62 k ohms, both pickups measure 4.86 k ohms, and the bridge measures 13.50 k ohms.
New the guitar goes for $749 and used you can find on for $400 to $600 depending on condition.
In the Dave Grohl type of guitars, I have now owned the Epiphone Signature model and a Chinese Knockoff that I gave to a friend of mine.
I had been reading for the past year about the Eastwood version and when presented with a really good deal I purchased it.
Here are some of the guitar’s specifications.
Model Classic 6 HB-TL
Finish Pelham Blue with a Finish Style of Gloss
Body Material Maple with the Top Material Maple
Neck Construction Set-Neck
Neck Material Maple
Fretboard Material Rosewood
Number of Frets 22
Bridge/Tailpiece Type Stop-Bar
Pickup Configuration HH with Eastwood’s Alnico Hot-10 Humbuckers
One point of good news for the left-handed viewers is Eastwood will soon be releasing a left-handed version of this guitar.
I found very minor fret rocking at the 4th fret and also at the 22 fret. The sides of the fretboard are smooth.
The guitar was intonated properly from the factory.
Here is what I like about this guitar.
I like the price. A sub $750 copy of a DG 335 with a really nice Rosewood fretboard is amazing.
The fit and finish are comparable to the Epiphone model of the guitar. Very well done and the shade of blue is to me accurate.
The fact that the guitar comes with Grover tuners from the factory is something I really appreciate. I love the feel of tuning a guitar with a Grover tuner. They are just so smooth.
I like that the guitar arrived to me despite not having a case with an intact headstock. Always a good thing.
Things I do not like.
I do not like that Eastwood used plastic nuts on things like the pickup selector switch. That is just a problem waiting to happen.
Nothing to do with Eastwood but the neck angle and the extended headstock of this guitar kind of makes me a nervous nelly around the guitar. It is one of few guitars I own where I do not think it is safe to store the guitar in a padded gig bag and instead have a hardshell case. I have kind of gotten away from hard cases for the most part because I store my guitars on safe shelves and on the wall. Cases are heavy and take up too much room. Set something on top of this guitar the wrong way and you have a catastrophic break.
Related to the neck. On my guitar I have massive neck dive. If you hold the guitar strap in the middle the neck dives a lot. You actually have to be careful.
Observations and Ideas
I had read in other reviews that the neck is think. I pulled out several guitars that I play a lot and compared them to playing this guitar. To me this neck is thick but very similar to the guitars that I like and very easy to play. I found myself liking to play this guitar.
One of the things I purchased the guitar for is I had read differing reviews from folks saying the guitar is phenomenal except for the electronics and pickups. I went into this trying to keep an open mind.
Here are the things I would not upgrade on the guitar:
Tuners, Nut, Bridge and Stop Bar. This pretty much only leaves the electronics and the pickups.
After playing the guitar for a while. I think it is muddy and muted. It is missing top end. There is no brightness. Let me know in the comments what you think.
