Kishimoto Finds Out Horikoshi Copies Naruto | My Hero Academia x Naruto Interview Explained

It’s always interesting when two Mangaka get together and have a conversation, and Masashi Kishimoto’s conversation with Kohei Horikoshi was no different, as the two talk about how much they’ve been inspired by previous legendary manga. First off, Horikoshi says that he wanted Bakugo to be sort of like Vegeta from Dragon Ball after Kishimoto says he really liked the character. From here Horikoshi tells Kishimoto that he had to reference a scene in Naruto when he drew a scene early on between Ochako, Bakugo and Deku because in his mind he could only think about how Kishi would have done it, but he’s seen comments online from people saying My Hero is a Naruto ripoff, and tries to keep things like that in mind when he writes the series. Kishimoto tells Hori not to worry about stuff like that, because the manga you love will always come out in the manga you create, like how Kishimoto was such a fan of Dragon Ball, that without realizing it he made Naruto just like Goku by watching Naruto grow up, get married and have children, which is something he never planned to write. For Horikoshi, he admits that he gave Aizawa eye powers, but didn’t realize until later that he might have used Kakashi as an inspiration, as the two laugh and continue to compare their manga.
