Expressing Identity
The identity of a person, whether that of the client or the user, is significant to architecture’s creation and experience. Architecture is not simply a neutral vessel that passively exists, but rather is a living being that reflects the users’ personalities, character, and values. Identity can come also in the form of a brand manifesting the beliefs and values of the organization. It comes as no surprise then that for companies to project a unified image, architecture and interior design are deployed to reflect what the brand is about, whether it reveals the owner’s identity, the product’s values, or the company’s essence.
Companies often extend their brand identity and values to architecture. Ayala Land Premiere, as a developer, focuses on warm, restrained, and elegant experiences in their properties. In these three projects, the overall massing centered on intersecting cubic forms and orthogonal planes. The modernist attitude in the architecture projects an aura of sophistication and luxury. However, due to these subdivisions’ focus on nature and sustainability, there was also a conscious effort to bring in warmth through natural materials such as wood and adobe stone, juxtaposed with glass and metal. Nestled within a lush garden landscape and with distant views of the mountains, you are constantly reminded how the natural environs of these clubhouses truly inform the brand experience.
Among the many examples include the Clubhouse at Riomonte (2015). The clubhouse program required function rooms, an indoor playground, residents’ lounge, showers and lockers, pool, administration offices.
Inspired by the geological features of the river (“rio”) and mountains (“monte”) present in the environs of the subdivision, the forms were taken from the stepping of the mountain ranges and the sinuous flowing lines of rivers. The layering of planes and volumes were made to emulate the changing elevations of the mountain range. Varying heights of room volumes and roof planes furthered the idea of mountains. To complement the varied heights, wide cantilevered eaves protect the open verandas. Wooden slats surrounding the verandas act as sun shading devices to shelter the interiors from the intense heat.
