McG’s guest this week is writer and critic David Benedict. He began as an actor and was in “Compromised Immunity”, one of the first British plays about AIDS, in 1985. Subsequently he became a journalist for the Independent, the Observer and Variety.
David Benedict is a Doris Day fan. He’s also presented an evening at BFI Southbank called Oklahomo! We eagerly await his forthcoming biography of Stephen Sondheim.
McG is quite clearly inebriated on Tanqueray gin throughout the interview. Lockdown is getting to him but it seems that he’s determined to keep doing these programmes. You may feel obliged to comment on his unprofessionalism.
