Thank you for joining me on this quick rip down one of many fast downhills on the Go John! Loop in Cave Creek AZ! Don't miss the FULL VIDEO @ the link attached!! This is only the first of many long downhills on the Loop in Cave Creek AZ near Scottsdale and Phoenix.
What’s up everyone, and welcome back to another episode of Where U BEANS!? Thanks for joining me on this New Year’s Day ride as I finally make my way out to Cave Creek Regional Park to take on the legendary Go John! Loop—and let me tell you, this trail absolutely lived up to the hype.
The Go John! Loop is a 5.7-mile black diamond mountain bike trail with 856 feet of elevation gain, and from the very first drop-in, it lets you know you’re in for something special. I decided to ride the loop clockwise, even though most riders recommend going counterclockwise. Honestly, after experiencing it this way, I find it hard to believe the opposite direction could be more fun. The ride starts with an incredible downhill that clings to the hillside, delivering what feels like an endless ribbon of fast, flowing singletrack carved into the mountain. The trail hugs the slope with exposure, speed, and just enough tech to keep you fully locked in—and that’s not even the best part of the loop.
As the trail wraps around the backside of the mountain, Go John! really shows its teeth. This section is packed with technical climbs and descents, rocky lines, punchy ascents, and rugged desert terrain that will challenge even experienced riders. It’s the kind of riding that demands focus, good line choice, and steady legs, but it’s incredibly rewarding the entire way through. The scenery doesn’t hurt either—this was a New Year’s Day ride, and the desert was absolutely glowing. Wildflowers were blooming everywhere, adding pops of color to an already stunning Sonoran Desert landscape.
And just when you think the ride can’t get any better, Go John! saves the grand finale for last. The loop finishes with a screaming downhill that runs alongside a cliff for nearly three miles, offering high-speed thrills, stunning views, and nonstop smiles all the way back to the trailhead. It’s the kind of descent that makes you want to turn around and do it all over again.
I’m honestly not sure what took me so long to get out here, but I can promise you this—it won’t be long before I’m back to explore the other trails in Cave Creek Regional Park. If you’re an experienced rider looking for flow, tech, exposure, and unforgettable desert riding, I can’t recommend the Go John! Loop enough.
Thanks so much for watching, and as always, I’ll see you out on the trail!
