Описание: If you were to ask any Elvis fan the song which he use to close his live shows during the seventies then the answer would undoubtedly be Can’t Help Falling In Love. This is of course broadly accurate but there are exceptions such as in Lake Tahoe in 1971 where he finished off with Bridge Over Troubled Water.
The most glaring exception was during Elvis’ fourth Las Vegas season which ran between 26 January and 23 February 1971 where Elvis chose to end his shows with a newly added song The Impossible Dream. This is not to suggest that Can’t Help Falling In Love was ignored at Elvis performed it mid-show on at least four occasions during this season including the opening show.
Elvis would continue using the song to close some shows during his next engagement in Lake Tahoe before reverting back to solely Can’t Help Falling In Love for August 1971 in Las Vegas.
There are currently only around thirty known live rendition of The Impossible Dream by Elvis with the bulk of those performed during this largely ignored Las Vegas season, and it is on this that this compilation is focused. Apart from being used as the show’s closing number, these renditions are notable for the extended intros and the wonderful solo bass singing by Armond Morales or The Imperials Quartet during the song’s penultimate verse.
There are a couple of renditions missing due to issues with the recordings. The most notable is that from the opening show. The song was actually recorded but RCA themselves state that latter part of the tape, containing the song, is damaged beyond repair. The other is from Elvis’ first midnight show of the season where the tape runs out after Hound Dog meaning the first version is actually from 28 January Dinner Show – the fourth show of the season!
