(9 Jul 2015) Shiite militiamen made some progress in Iraq's Anbar province against Islamic State group militants on Thursday.
The militia used artillery and other arms during the fighting in Saqlawiyah, 45 miles (72 kilometres) west of Baghdad.
Most areas in the Saqlawiyah district are under IS control.
According to the International Organisation for Migration, more than 276,000 people have been displaced from Anbar province since it was captured by Islamic State extremists.
Iraqi forces and allied Shiite militiamen have been struggling to claw back ground held by the IS in the Sunni province.
