Professor Dr. Peter Zec takes us through a curated selection of iconic objects from seven decades, sharing professional insights from the Red Dot Award and personal stories.

The exhibition features over 60 products that shaped design history, from the Fiat Nuova 500 and Eames EA 119 chair to the Tizio desk lamp and the first iPad. Zec also explores the intersection of sport, design, and fashion, highlighting World Cup footballs and the 1974 Adidas training suits worn by the German national team – objects that were once hype, now cult, and remain influential today.

70 Years of Promoting Good Design: The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of the first “Permanent Exhibition of Beautifully Designed Industrial Goods” in Essen (1955), which aimed to showcase quality design in post-war Germany. Over the decades, the institution evolved into the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, and in 1991, Peter Zec took the helm, establishing the Red Dot Award as a global benchmark for design excellence.
