The Union government has asked quick-commerce and food delivery platforms like Zepto, Blinkit and Swiggy to remove the “10-minute delivery” promise from their advertisements. This decision comes after growing concerns raised by gig workers over unsafe working conditions, road accidents, stress and exploitation caused by ultra-fast delivery targets. While fast delivery itself has not been banned, fixed timelines can no longer be promoted as marketing claims. This move is being seen as a major step toward protecting gig workers’ safety, dignity and labour rights. The issue is highly relevant for UPSC GS Paper II (Labour reforms, social justice) and GS Paper III (Gig economy, regulatory challenges and worker safety). Do you think this policy decision is right or wrong? Share your views in the comments.
