Описание: Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed at a news conference on Wednesday the capture and death of Myles Sanderson, a suspect in one of the worst mass killings in Canadian history, after an intense four-day search that held national and international attention.

Saskatchewan RCMP Commanding Officer Rhonda Blackmore detailed that shortly after Sanderson’s arrest, he went into “medical distress.” Police rammed his car off the road, but say he surrendered with self-inflicted wounds. He was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Blackmore.

Saskatchewan RCMP have requested an independent investigation into Sanderson’s arrest and death. The results of a forthcoming autopsy will not be released, citing the ongoing investigation.

“Unfortunately now that Myles is deceased, we may never have an understanding of [his] motivation,” Blackmore said. “Witnesses and people around him only have so much information. His motivation may at this time — and forever — only be known to Myles.”

“This evening, our province can breathe a sigh of relief,” Blackmore said.
