Camp Ford was the largest POW camp west of the Mississippi River. Compared to other POW camps, the conditions were better, due to a fresh water spring which provided ample water, and local cattle, which became their primary food source. Overcrowding was common, but was helped by prisoner exchanges.
Camp Ford is located just on the outskirts of Tyler, Texas, between Shreveport, Louisiana and Dallas, Texas.
