The Cerrado covers 2,000,000km2 of Brazil and is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Roughly the size of Western Europe, it is home to iconic species like the jaguar, maned wolf, tapir, giant anteater and giant armadillo. It provides nearly half of all Brazil’s water and is a vital carbon store – and over 30 million Brazilians, there.
Sadly, half of the Cerrado’s original vegetation has already been destroyed, primarily to make way for crop and cattle farming.
But we can make a difference. By changing how food is produced and restoring degraded pastures, farmers, communities and businesses are working to save the Cerrado. Together, we can protect and preserve the Cerrado.
