Description:
“Zhuang brocade” is the broad term for the characteristics of Zhuang traditional clothes. It has bright colors and a vibrant style, just like the culture of the Zhuang people.

Zhuang brocade, together with Yun brocade, Shu brocade and Song brocade, constitute the four famous brocades in China. It is said that it originated in the Song Dynasty, and it is a Chinese cultural treasure.

In the Zhuang language, Zhuang brocade is called mbaw laiz fax which means “the page of sky patterns.” This exquisite handicraft woven with cotton thread or silk thread has vivid patterns, rigorous structure, and colorful colors. It is full of warm and cheerful style, and it embodies the Zhuang ethnicity. The patterns reflect Zhuang people's respect for heaven and earth and their pursuit and yearning for a good life.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of our organization at UC Berkeley, Fei Tian Dancers hosted a grand showcase of cultural heritage on March 11, 2023. With preparation beginning a year in advance in May 2022, AAPI student groups presented a culmination of the past year’s efforts onstage at the “Heritage 传承” showcase. Focusing on Chinese dance & featuring various other traditional Asian art forms, “Heritage 传承” is an artistic representation of the journey of our ancestors as visualized by the diaspora.

Community – To build & strengthen the sense of community among AAPI performing arts groups on campus & beyond. 团结

✨ About CDCSC: Chinese Dance Company of Southern California (CDCSC) was co-founded by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center (SCCCC) and Pan America Chinese Dance Alliance (PACDA) in late 2019. Based in Irvine, California, CDCSC’s Mission is to provide learning, communication, performance opportunities, and platforms for dance lovers in Southern California. The company aims to tell classic Chinese stories with well-known traditional dances, as well as encouraging and inspiring original choreographies to tell stories about American Chinese immigrants.

Although CDCSC encountered the pandemic soon after it was formed, the members continued training and learning new dances online, and performed virtually and live in events such as the 2020 SCCCA Virtual Gala, Pacific Symphony Orchestra & SCCCC’s Annual OC Lantern Festival, Grand Park of LA “Our LA Voices”, National Dance Day, Irvine Global Village, Irvine 50th Anniversary, Irvine’s State of the City.
