Heading to Southern Normandy 🇫🇷: Three gems to discover 🌄🏡🏞️

On this stage of our Normandy journey, we dive into some of its most picturesque and history-filled towns. We start in Domfront 🏰, a medieval jewel spared from the bombings of World War II. We’ll stroll through its historic center, Liberty Square, the neo-Byzantine Saint-Julien church ⛪, and enjoy the views from Panorama Square. We’ll also explore the ruins of its impressive castle, with its 11th-century keep and the Chapel of Saint-Symphorien, before getting lost in streets lined with timber-framed houses and historic courtyards.

Next stop: Bagnoles de l’Orne 💐, famous for its Belle Époque architecture and history as a spa town. Here we’ll discover elegant villas, the Art Deco Sacred Heart Church, and walk along Casino Street to reach its lake 🌊, surrounded by iconic buildings like the Grand Hotel and Casino. We’ll finish by climbing to the Roc au Chien ⛰️, a spectacular viewpoint over the forest and thermal resort.

Our final stop is Saint-Céneri-le-Gerei 🌸, one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” Perched on a rocky spur along the Sarthe River, it has inspired many painters since the 19th century. We’ll wander through its flower-filled streets, cross the bridge over the Sarthe for its most famous view, visit the Moisy Sisters’ Inn, and the 1089 Romanesque church with medieval frescoes. We’ll end at the Chapel of Little Saint-Celerin, a corner steeped in legend.
